Surrey invests £2m in centres for children with special education needs

Context:

Surrey County Council has signed off investment of £2 million in education for children with special needs. A new centre will be built and the council’s nine specialist resource facilities at mainstream primary schools will be improved.

Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Change and Efficiency Tim Hall said: “Our priority is excellence in education and we are determined to work with our schools to create an environment that unlocks every child’s full potential.

“This £2m investment shows our commitment to making sure that children across Surrey with the most severe and complex needs have the best possible facilities.”

Further details:

The centres mainly support children with learning difficulties on the autistic spectrum.

It is expected that the new centre will be based at a school in the Epsom and Ewell area. The council is currently deciding the best location.

· Badshot Lea Village Infant (Farnham)
· Cordwalles Junior (Camberley)
· Pyrcroft Grange Primary (Chertsey)
· William Cobbett Junior (Farnham)
· Bagshot Infant (Bagshot)
· Dovers Green (Reigate)
· Eastwick Infant (Great Bookham, Leatherhead)
· Eastwick Junior (Great Bookham, Leatherhead)
· St Matthew’s CofE Primary (Redhill).

It is expected work at all the centres will be completed by September 2012.
