Surrey County Council has issued a rallying cry for volunteers to help make Olympic history.
Residents have until Tuesday (31 January) to apply to be Surrey Ambassadors on the days the Olympic cycle events and torch relay take place in the county.
Denise Saliagopoulos, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games, said: “Although we have had a great response with hundreds of applicants we still need more volunteers.
“We are recruiting up to 450 ambassadors with good local knowledge to welcome visitors and provide interesting and useful information about the area when the Olympics come to Surrey.
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I encourage everyone who wants to play their part in the 2012 Games to apply now.
“Ambassadors will get invaluable experience working directly with the public, they will get training and meet people from all over the world.”
Volunteers will be at key locations along the cycle route or at railway stations to give directions, provide information about the Olympic events, direct spectators to facilities and encourage them to visit local attractions and events.
Ambassadors need to be 18 or over and be able to commit to at least two days of five hours, between 20 July 2012 and 1 August 2012.
Applications close on Tuesday 31 January. For more information and to apply visit www.gosurrey.info
