Develop a life-long love of reading at the Children’s Book Festival

The Surrey County Council Children’s Book Festival will take place later this month.

Thirty exciting events will be held in libraries and other venues across Woking, Guildford, Surrey Heath and Waverley, between 24 March and 7 April.

Best-selling author Nick Arnold will launch the festival with an outrageous hair-raising show inspired by the popular Horrible Science books.

Children will also be able to party with Maisy the storybook mouse, make a newspaper, question authors, have a cold-blooded animal encounter and much, much more.

The festival hasn’t forgotten the rest of the family – kids can try out Tai Chi, T-shirt designing, fairytale and puppet making with their mums, dads, brothers and sisters. Grandparents are sure to enjoy teaching their grandchildren the jive or jitterbug at a 1950’s style dance.

The aim of the Children’s Book Festival is to encourage more young people to discover the magic of reading and develop a love of books that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services Helyn Clack said: “It’s important that children discover the joy of the library and books from an early age and carry it on throughout their childhood.

“The Children’s Book Festival has been organised to promote learning through interactive activities and is a great opportunity for children to develop their minds. I would encourage families to visit their local library see what’s on offer.”
