Building on the success of last year’s first ever Surrey Pride, Surrey County Council are pleased to announce their support for Surrey Pride 2020. This year’s launch event took place at the HG Wells Conference and Event Centre in Woking where this year’s sponsors and events were revealed.
This year Surrey Pride will be going from strength to strength with even more events throughout the year. Last year’s summer event in Woking attracted over 7,000 people and the hope is that this years summer event will be even bigger and better.
Colin Kemp Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council said: “We are pleased to announce our involvement in this year’s Surrey Pride. As an organisation we are on a mission to develop our own diversity and inclusion plans – to embrace and celebrate Surrey’s diversity – and Pride is an excellent way to support the LGBTQ+ community.”
As well as the summer event in Woking on the 8 August, for the first time this year there are plans for other events to include all ages including a Big Pride Picnic, an LGBTQ+ Prom for under 18s and a Winter Pride community event to coincide with World AIDs day. Stephen Ireland Founder and Co-Chair of Pride in Surrey: “We’re so excited about this year’s plans for Surrey Pride. It’s wonderful to partner with the County Council again this year, and in the spirit of inclusion there are even more events planned to appeal to all ages, young and old, bringing all communities together in celebration.”
