More time to have your say on a new walking and cycling route in Burpham

People who live and travel through Burpham are being encouraged to give their views on updated proposals for a cycle and walking route between New Inn Lane roundabout, Burpham and York Road crossroads, Guildford, including Boxgrove roundabout.

The survey is now available for a further four weeks, until Friday 15 December 2023, and two additional information events will also be taking place as follows:

Date Venue
Wed 8 November 22023Guildford High School, 6.30pm – 9pm
Sat 18 November 2023George Abbot School 10am – 2pm
Wed 6 December 2023George Abbot School 6pm – 8pm

The engagement period has been extended to give residents the opportunity to consider new traffic modelling information as part of their survey responses, which is now available here.

The new route is being designed to make walking and cycling safer and easier for residents to access key destinations such as local schools and the town centre, in a more sustainable way.

Plans for road closures which would need to be implemented if the scheme goes ahead, have been revised to significantly reduce disruption. These include:

  • No road closures during the day
  • No traffic lights in place during the day
  • Any closures to take place at night only, whilst still allowing access for residents.

Matt Furniss, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth said,We have extended the closing date for feedback on the London Road active travel scheme to ensure our residents have adequate time to review our new traffic modelling information to help inform their responses.

Thank you to everyone who has got involved so far – we have been joined by over 200 people at our drop-in sessions and received over 600 survey responses to date.

I encourage residents and others who travel in these areas to take the opportunity to have their say.”

This is one of 13 schemes which has been awarded government funding to support transformational, innovative projects which reallocate road space to active travel modes, making walking and cycling more accessible.
