Surrey Libraries Super Access Comes to Horley

Surrey County Council increases opening times at Horley Library so that Surrey’s residents will be able to use the library at a time that suits them.

Surrey Libraries are installing new technology which provides longer and more convenient opening times for residents.Horley Library is the first Surrey library to launch Surrey Libraries Super Access, due to go live in November this year.

Horley library will be the first to be fitted with new computer technology provided by Lyngsoe Systems that allows registered library members, who have had a short introduction to the new technology, to access the library during the new, extended opening hours which are in addition to the existing staff hours. Super Access library members, age 16 and over, will be able to enter the library using their library card and PIN code when the library is not staffed. The system will initially be rolled out across 12 other key library sites across Surrey in phases, with completion expected by the end of 2024.

Surrey County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities, Councillor Denise Turner-Stewart said: I am delighted to introduce this new service that will enhance our Surrey library offer and have a positive impact on the lives of library members. The new technology will enable residents to access Horley Library later in the evening, and at the weekends, meaning the library will be accessible to residents for an additional 46.5 hours per week.

“The aim of Surrey Libraries Super Access is to make best use of our libraries by giving residents access to facilities at times that fit in with their busy lives and will also allow them to use the space as a community event venue. We hold lots of different activities and events at our libraries and being open outside traditional hours will enable Horley library to offer much more to local residents.  We foresee the library space being used in all sorts of new ways in the future to facilitate community activity.

“We are continuing to invest in our libraries with the intention of rolling out this technology in 12 other libraries across Surrey by the end of 2024.”

Super Access hours at Horley Library will initially be 8am – 9:30am and 5:15pm – 8pm Monday to Saturday, with shorter hours on a Sunday.   Horley Library will remain staffed from 9.30am to 5pm from Tuesday – Saturday.
