Surrey Fire and Rescue Service honour the work of emergency services on 999 Day

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service proudly participated in the national 999 Emergency Services Day commemoration, honouring the vital work of emergency services across the UK. The event took place at the Surrey County Council headquarters this morning, with key figures and VIPs in attendance to show their support and gratitude for those who serve on the front lines.

At 9:00 am, the flag raising took place, accompanied by a two-minute silence to honour the sacrifice and commitment of those who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. The silence was poignantly marked by the sounding of a whistle at 9:02 am.

Dan Quin, Chief Fire Officer of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, also shared his thoughts on the day: “999 Day is a powerful reminder of the dedication and bravery that our emergency service personnel demonstrate every day. I’m incredibly proud of our firefighters, Control Officers, and staff who work tirelessly to protect our communities. Today, we not only honour their service but also the spirit of unity and collaboration that defines the emergency services.“

Following the formal proceedings, attendees gathered for tea, coffee, and cake, providing an opportunity for reflection and camaraderie among colleagues from across the emergency services.

Meanwhile, at Guildford Fire Station the High Sheriff, Shahid Azeem, was warmly welcomed by Woking’s Blue Watch crew, who were covering for Guildford due to an ongoing incident. The visit provided the High Sheriff with an insightful look into the daily operations and challenges faced by firefighters. The team, shared their experiences and demonstrated their commitment to keeping Surrey safe.
