Surrey Fire and Rescue Service recognised 54 staff members and individuals at its annual Awards and Commendations Ceremony.
The event, held on 15 October, at G Live, Guildford celebrated staff for their long service, professionalism and commitment to their roles.
Awards were also handed out to dedicated volunteers, as well as community members for acts of bravery.
Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin said: “Last week, we had the privilege to hear stories that demonstrate outstanding bravery, leadership, compassion, and professionalism. This event is a highlight in our yearly calendar, where we come together to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions and dedication of our colleagues and community members to keep the people of Surrey safe.
“Congratulations to all our award recipients, and thank you to the friends, family, and loved ones who have supported them.”
Cabinet Member for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service & Resilience, Kevin Deanus also attended the ceremony. He said: “I was honoured to join the annual awards ceremony, celebrating the remarkable achievements, bravery, and dedication of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service staff, as well as the inspiring acts of members of the public. It was clear community safety is at the heart of everything they do.
“I thank all our award recipients for their dedication and bravery. They make Surrey a safer, stronger place for us all.”
Two members of the public who rescued an elderly lady from her burning home, and an off-duty firefighter and son who saved a boy from drowning were among those awarded.
Long-service awards were presented to people who had served 10, 20, 30, 35 and 40 years with the fire service.
Chris Sirett was the 40-year recipient. Chris joined Surrey Fire and Rescue Service in 1982. His award citation stated: “Throughout his time in the Service, Chris has emphasised the importance of mentoring and developing others, a theme that’s been central to his career and his greatest professional pride.”
The evening was also attended by Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey, James Babbington; High Sheriff of Surrey, Shahid Azeem, and Chair of the Council, Saj Hussain.
