Surrey Youth Arts & Culture Festival Success!

Camberley greeted over 250 young people last weekend, as they immersed themselves in the varied arts and cultural opportunities available in Surrey.  The hugely successful, Surrey Youth Arts and Culture Festival 2024 was held at both Camberly Theatre and Camberley Library on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 November

The Festival was packed with free events and activities, supported by over 30 creative and cultural organisations, such as the National Film and Television School, Royal Holloway, University of London and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

Young people had the opportunity to take part in activities such as coding games, film production, graphic design and music.  One parent shared, “Thank you so much for a fantastic day today! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. My two children (12 & 10) loved DJ-ing, doing Le Spleen art workshop, making bead bracelets, and little boxes of joy. It was lovely to listen to all the amazing young musicians throughout their activities. My eldest is keen to continue with DJ-ing!”

Denise Turner-Stewart, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer & Communities said, This Festival celebrates the incredible range of creative talent we have in Surrey and does an excellent job in inspiring our younger generation to consider how they can get involved.  Musical, creative and cultural activities are vital to enhance young lives and they bring joy, as well as health and well-being benefits.

The National Film and Television School workshop was very popular, as were the Street Art workshop with Le Spleen Art and the Coding Games workshops with Chaos Created.  Next year we will be in Staines, so if you missed out this year, make sure you attend in 2025.”

The Festival was supported by funding from Arts Council England, as well as Surrey Heath Borough Council through UK prosperity funding. The Surrey Youth Arts and Culture Festival is led by Culture Box Surrey, the Local Cultural Education Partnership for the county of Surrey, which is led by Surrey Arts (Surrey County Council). Culture Box Surrey works to bring cultural organisations and children and young people together.

Culture Box Surrey has recently launched a page dedicated to Young People where they can explore arts and cultural opportunities available across Surrey and future creative career support. https://www.cultureboxsurrey.org.uk/young-people/
