Surrey residents are invited to join representatives from Surrey County Council at four Surrey libraries over the next couple of weeks, to learn more about forthcoming Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
The ‘Let’s Talk’ face to face sessions will be held at Staines, Dorking, Farnham and Oxted libraries, for residents to ask questions, and learn more about the proposed changes and what they could mean for local communities.
The sessions will take place as follows:
| Let’s Talk Session Location | Date & Time |
| Staines Library, Friends Walk, Staines-upon-Thames, TW18 4PG | Wednesday 16 April 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm |
| Dorking Library, St Martin’s Walk, Dorking RH4 1UT | Thursday 17 April 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm |
| Oxted Library, 12 Gresham Road, Oxted, Surrey RH8 0BQ | Wednesday 23 April 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm |
| Farnham Library, Vernon House, 28 West Street, Farnham GU9 7DR | Thursday 24 April 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm |
A live online engagement session is also being planned for May and further opportunities to meet the team will take place at other libraries and local events throughout the summer months.
In-person Community Boards are also being established for autumn this year. These Boards will enable strong community engagement and deliver genuine opportunities for neighbourhood empowerment. Once running, all communities will be able to have their say, engage with decision makers, get information and be part of coordinated action to improve their local places.
Tim Oliver OBE, Leader of Surrey County Council said, “Throughout the development of our proposal recommending the county is split into two unitary councils, we’ve engaged with partners across Surrey to ensure we’re putting the best option forward to government.”
“It’s very important to us that we continue to engage with our residents in different ways and that they have opportunities to raise questions and understand the reasons why we believe this model of local government would bring the most benefits for them.”
“I encourage people to attend these face to face events to find out more as we move forward during this significant period of change for local government in Surrey.”
