Surrey welcomes 12 new firefighters

12 new Surrey firefighters showcased their skills at a pass out parade on Sunday, marking the completion of their challenging but rewarding training journey.

The recruits – who are a mixture of firefighters with wholetime and on-call contracts – demonstrated their capabilities in front of family, friends, instructors and senior officers during the ceremony held at Surrey’s Wray Park training centre in Reigate. The firefighters will be heading to the following fire stations: Banstead, Painshill, Egham , Fordbridge, Guildford, Woking, Haslemere and Egham. In addition, the course was a partnership effort, training Trainee Firefighters from other fire and rescue services, including three East Sussex firefighters and three Guernsey firefighters.

Speaking after the event, Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin said: “We are incredibly proud of our latest group of Trainee Firefighters. They have shown remarkable resilience, professionalism and a genuine team spirit throughout their time with us. Completing these intensive courses is no small feat, and each of them has demonstrated the qualities we value in our firefighters – courage, compassion and a deep commitment to keeping people safe.

I am also particularly proud of the partnership element of this course – working together to serve communities broader than our county.”

The pass out parade included practical demonstrations of the skills the Trainee Firefighters have developed, such as fire suppression techniques, casualty rescue scenarios and simulated road traffic collisions.

This successful round of training marks another step forward in strengthening the fire and rescue service. Plans are already underway for future training programmes as we continue to develop the next generation of firefighters.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting for a range of positions from on-call firefighters to Partnership Officers and more. If you’re interested in joining, please visit www.surreycc.gov.uk/firecareers
