The Library Hub Weybridge will be opening its doors in Summer 2025, and residents will have an opportunity to have a preview of what’s planned at a resident engagement event on Friday 6 June between 2pm and 8pm at St James Hall, Weybridge.
The new Library Hub in Weybridge will host a mix of services including Brooklands Radio, a new modern Library, Youth Services, and an overall community space that will provide universal access for all residents.
Facilities include areas for agile working, meeting pods, studying, accessing support and a space to meet socially. The hub also offers areas where community groups can host their own events and activities alongside an already extensive list that is run by the library team. The new building also includes a new stage area for hosting events. The provision has been shaped with involvement from local partners, community groups and stakeholders. The design is dyslexia, dementia and autism friendly to ensure the hub is inclusive and accessible for all.
Alongside the services already co-locating in the new hub, there are lettable areas available for other third parties to operate from.
Surrey County Council deputy leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities Denise Turner-Stewart said: “Our community hubs are the very ethos of what Surrey County Council are investing in, to deliver in the heart of our communities, working together with external partners and residents, to provide places that bring our services, support and social events and activities all under one roof for our residents to access and enjoy.
“Our modern, sustainable, accessible and multi-purpose Library Hubs are about building stronger communities together, providing a legacy for future service and support provision within our local areas. We are proud to have been able to deliver another Library Hub, this time in the heart of Weybridge.”
Surrey County Council Adolescent Service: “We welcome the opportunity to be part of the new Library Hub Weybridge to offer support for young people aged 11 plus and their families on a variety of issues thatn can be hard to cope with during adolescence. We are looking forward to operating in this new modern space which will enable us to support young people in a safe, confidential, inclusive and welcoming environment”
Surrey Libraries: “The libraries team are excited to move into this new modern library space, providing a new children’s library with sensory areas, work and study spaces, meeting rooms, flexible furniture to accommodate varying activities and events, and with Super Access to provide access to the library outside of normal library working hours. Together with a mix of events of activities on offer designed in collaboration with the local community”
Brooklands Radio: “Brooklands Radio looks forward to returning to the new Hub in the heart of Weybridge to be able to provide an even more comprehensive, professional service that focuses on Community engagement and support. We thank Surrey County Council for the opportunity”
Elmbridge Borough Council Cllr Gill Coates, Portfolio Holder for Community Care, said: “Our Community Services have been successfully sharing space with library services for many months, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the new Weybridge Library Hub. The hub has been designed to allow users to seamlessly move between the traditional library spaces and the event and activity spaces available for community groups including our own community services. We are working with Surrey County Council exploring how we can make best use of these spaces. At a time when social isolation is a growing concern, this flexible community space will provide residents with a welcoming place to connect, interact, and find support. We look forward to hearing residents’ thoughts at this event on 6 June.”
Road improvements
There will also be a chance to meet the Surrey County Council project team and view the Weybridge town centre road improvements ahead of work starting in the autumn. The proposals were initially put to residents at a public event in May 2022, and then consulted on in early 2023.
The planned improvements have been updated based on resident feedback and are designed to improve the town centre environment and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
You can read more about the work and see the plans online on the website.
