Over £21m awarded for large scale community projects through Your Fund Surrey

The latest Surrey County Council Cabinet Meeting saw some important decisions made on behalf of Surrey residents, including another fantastic milestone for Your Fund Surrey.

The funding demonstrates Surrey County Council’s commitment to empowering local communities and enhancing facilities across the county. These latest approvals bring the total number of large projects supported to 52, with a substantial £21.2 million invested from the fund.

Your Fund Surrey was established to give local communities the opportunity to shape their surroundings and deliver projects that matter most to them. It supports initiatives that provide lasting community benefit, encourage collaboration, and address local needs.

The newly approved projects include:

  • Shamley Green Village Hall, Waverley: Awarded £700,000 to transform the existing hall into a vibrant and sustainable community hub. The project will involve the demolition of outdated annexes and the construction of modern facilities, including low-carbon installations, changing rooms, a demountable stage for flexible use, and an improved internal layout designed to better serve the needs of residents. These enhancements will improve accessibility and enable the hall to host a wider range of community activities and events, while supporting long-term environmental sustainability.
  • St Peter’s Shared Church, Guildford: Awarded £850,000 to extend and modernise its facilities with the creation of a new atrium. The extension will house the Oak Café, serve as the main entrance and reception, provide hospitality and workspace areas, and will significantly improve accessibility to all parts of the building. This transformation will enable a broader range of community activities.
  • West Clandon Church, Guildford: Awarded £412,400 for the construction of a new annexe. This new facility will provide modern kitchen amenities, accessible toilets, and additional meeting space, adjoining but separated from the main church building. The new annexe will bring the facilities up-to-date and help to do even more to support the whole community and beyond.

Surrey County Council deputy leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities Denise Turner-Stewart said:  “Your Fund Surrey’s Large Community Projects Fund continues to be a phenomenal success, directly supporting our residents’ bold ambitions for their local areas.

“The approval of these three fantastic community projects, bringing our total investment to over £21 million across 52 initiatives is a testament to the incredible vision and dedication of our community groups. We are proud to empower local residents to bring their ambitious ideas to life, creating facilities and spaces that genuinely make a difference to people’s lives from all age groups right across Surrey, leaving a lasting legacy that will support communities for years to come.”

As well as large community projects, there is also funding available via Your Councillor Community Funding.
