Surrey: Are we prepared for an emergency? 

This September, public-sector organisations across Surrey are joining forces to launch a county-wide communications campaign aimed at helping residents prepare for all types of emergencies. 

The campaign, titled Surrey Prepared, will run throughout the month on various social media channels – councils, emergency services and more – and is designed to raise awareness of the risks Surrey communities may face and how to prepare for them. From severe weather and flooding to power outages and cyber attacks. 

Surrey’s Chief Fire Officer, Dan Quin, is also Chair of the Surrey Prepared partnership. He said: “Emergencies can happen at any time, and being prepared can make a real difference – especially for those in our society who need more care and attention. This campaign is about empowering residents with the knowledge and tips that they need to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.” 

How can you and your loved ones be more prepared? 

• Know your risks: The Surrey Community Risk Register, which can be found on Surrey County Council’s website, identifies key hazards such as flooding, heatwaves, cyber attacks and pandemics . 

• Sign up! Sign up for local alerts via the Government’s website and follow trusted sources for emergency updates. You can also sign up for the Priority Services Register, which provides additional support to vulnerable people/households during utility outages. 

The Surrey Prepared partnership includes councils, emergency services, utility companies and more.
