A Surrey County Council children’s residential home in Woking has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, following a recent inspection that praised the home’s exceptional care and commitment to young people’s wellbeing and development.
Inspectors commended the home for delivering “exceptionally good care,” enabling children to “make significant progress from their starting points”. The report also highlighted the staff team’s dedication to personalised support, noting that they “want the children to feel loved and not just cared for” and that children “make excellent progress in relation to their health outcomes and their emotional, social and psychological well-being” when living at the home.
Staff and managers’ strong focus on education was also recognised in the report, acknowledging that they “work relentlessly to identify education provision for children who were not attending schools” and help children “engage in alternative education until school places are secured,” supporting them to “achieve their full potential.”
Councillor Jonathan Hulley, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Lifelong Learning, said: “This Outstanding Ofsted outcome reflects our ongoing dedication to ensuring the best possible outcomes for Surrey children and young people, including through investing in developing a skilled, high-quality workforce. I would like to thank all the staff at the home for their exceptional work and for being part of a team that truly makes a difference.
“We are investing £18m capital funding to expand our in-house residential capacity across Surrey. By 2028, this capital programme will deliver eight new homes, providing 26 additional in-county beds. Ensuring more looked-after children can remain within their home county, close to their communities and networks, and to the range of services that Surrey can provide to them. Ultimately, giving them the best opportunity to succeed and thrive.”
