Surrey Fire and Rescue Service smash national charity fundraising record

Surrey’s Salfords Fire Station and Joint Fire Control have set a new record for fire and rescue fundraising – bringing in over £9,000 (including £2,000 match funding to be received from Barclays) from their Christmas Grotto event, with every penny supporting Fire Fighters Charity.

The total comfortably tops the previous national single event benchmark of around £3,100 and it came with a sleighful of festive spirit, family fun, and teamwork from on station crews, JFC staff, and volunteers.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Jon Simpson said: “Colleagues at Salfords and our control room have put so much effort into making this event one to remember and it really has paid off. Our crews love welcoming people into the station, and seeing the community rally behind Fire Fighters Charity makes it even more special.”

“A huge thank you as well to residents who came – your generosity has been incredible.”

Louise Furneaux, Regional Fundraiser at Fire Fighters Charity, said: “On behalf of everyone at Fire Fighters Charity, I want to sincerely thank everyone from Salfords Fire Station and Joint Fire Control for organising such a fantastic Christmas Grotto event – and for raising such an incredible amount.”

“These funds make such a difference in supporting our work: providing life-long care and support to our whole fire services community, during and after service. Once again, a massive thank you to all involved.”

Across the day, families met Santa in his grotto, met Grinch, and enjoyed stalls and activities – all made possible by staff, volunteers and local partners.

Fire Fighters Charity provides life‑changing health and wellbeing support to the fire and rescue service community – serving operational and support staff, retired members and their families. Find out more or donate at www.firefighterscharity.org.uk.
