Popular tree giveaways return

Surrey County Council is set to hand over 750 free trees to residents next week, as tree giveaway events return to Surrey’s libraries.

The giveaway is part of the county council’s tree strategy which launched in 2019 and saw the council pledge to facilitate the planting of 1.2 million trees, one for every resident in Surrey, by 2030.

The following libraries are giving away trees on a first-come, first-served basis, on Saturday 7 February 2026:

The trees are native, broad-leaved species and come with a stake and guard, ready for planting at home. A leaflet containing information on how to plant and care for the tree will be provided with every tree.

Marisa Heath, Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning, said:“Our tree giveaways are always popular events and are a great opportunity for residents to be part of a Surrey legacy while tackling the impact of climate change and improving biodiversity. Since our pledge in 2019, 768,332  trees have been planted and we couldn’t  have done this without the ongoing support from schools, communities, businesses and residents, and of course the volunteers who have helped with the planting itself.”
