Following Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s announcement that £3 million from the national Olympic budget will be used to boost domestic tourism in 2012 and beyond, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games Denise Saliagopoulos said:

“I welcome Jeremy Hunt’s announcement the Government will be investing £3 million to boost tourism to help ensure Surrey and the rest of Britain maximise the potential to grow this important part of our economy.

“The Games have already generated more than £740 million for Surrey businesses. Tourism will be a key sector to benefit in the coming months and years with over a million visitors expected to watch the road cycling races alone.

“We’ve been working to help ensure Surrey businesses, including those in the tourism industry, are able to make full use of the opportunities available. This includes teaming up with Business Link and Visit Surrey to stage free events offering training and advice.”
