Today’s national strike

Today (Wednesday 30 November) a number of public sector unions are taking industrial action as part of a national dispute over pensions.

There are 247 state schools in Surrey closed or partly shut out of 375. Full details of these closures can be found via the schools page.

Other county council services, such as community recycling centres, libraries, adult social care and children’s social care, are largely unaffected as is Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesman for Surrey County Council said: “This is a national dispute between unions and the Government. It is not a dispute between staff and Surrey County Council.”
