Olympic boss praises Surrey’s preparations

Cabinet Member Denise Saliagopoulos with British Olympic Association chief executive Andy Hunt at County Hall

The Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association has praised Surrey County Council’s preparations for the London 2012 Games.

Speaking during a visit to County Hall in Kingston yesterday, Andy Hunt commended Surrey firms for winning more than £740 million worth of Olympic-related contracts.

He also said hundreds of Surrey schools are set to benefit from free tickets to Olympic and Paralympic events as part of the London 2012 Ticketshare programme.

Denise Saliagopoulos, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games, said: “Andy Hunt was clearly impressed by the way Surrey’s embraced the Games and the progress we’ve made. The Games will bring huge economic, cultural and sporting benefits to Surrey and it’s fantastic that so many of our young people will get the chance to go to events.”
