BlackBerry launches video of council’s waste app

Research in Motion has launched a video of an application Surrey County Council created for its BlackBerry smartphone to stop residents forking out £1 million a year on trade waste.

The council developed the app for a van and trailer permit scheme to help prevent residents paying to dispose of trade waste dumped at community recycling centres for free.

Surrey is also creating an app for youth workers to use on BlackBerry’s Playbook tablet computer and Torch smartphone that will cut bureaucracy and save the council up to £100,000 a year.
