Canon and councils join forces on jobs for young people

Surrey leader David Hodge

Business and councils have joined forces to host an event aimed at helping young people get on the career ladder.

Small and medium-sized companies are being encouraged to attend the session at Canon’s UK headquarters in Reigate on Tuesday 27 November to find out about youth employment opportunities.

Surrey County Council and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council have organised the event with the help of Surrey Chambers of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, colleges in the county and training providers as well as local enterprise partnerships.

Companies will be able to find out about the benefits of hiring young people, cash incentives available for this and the qualifications young people can secure to get them ready for work.

The free event takes place between 5.30pm and 7.30pm and comes after around 1,800 young people flocked to last month’s Surrey Opportunities Fair organised by the county council.

A campaign launched by Surrey leader David Hodge to get businesses to hire 200 apprentices by offering a cash incentive is on the verge of reaching the target.
