A new website has been launched to help businesses win contracts as part of Surrey County Council’s pledge to keep spending local.
BuildSurrey – which can be found at www.buildsurrey.net – lets firms pitch for building construction and repair work that the county council and its main contractors need doing.
Local builders and electricians among others can also compete for work from other public sector organisations, including district and borough councils.
The site was created by the county council to help promote economic growth as part of its pledge to ensure 60% of its spending on goods and services goes to local businesses.
Businesses are now being urged to attend a free event at Epsom Racecourse on 7 February designed to help them to register on the site, get advice about winning contracts and find out more about work in the pipeline.
Surrey County Council’s deputy leader Peter Martin said: “In the current climate, we must do everything we can to support the local economy and our aim is to ensure 60% of the county council’s spending is with local businesses.
“There can be no better way for the council to help local firms thrive than by putting money in their bank accounts through the BuildSurrey website.”
