Surrey signs off plans for another 630 school places

An extra 630 places will be created at three schools as the county council pushes on with the biggest investment programme Surrey’s ever seen.

Capacity at Hythe Primary in Staines, Ashford Park Primary in Ashford and Stamford Green Primary, Epsom, will be boosted by 210 places each by 2020.

The plan to create 30 extra places a year at the trio of schools was signed off by Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning Linda Kemeny.

The investment forms part of the county council’s drive to find 16,000 additional school places by 2018 to meet a rise in demand from a surging birth rate. Of those, 3,000 will be created by next September.

Mrs Kemeny said: “These places are being provided as part of the biggest expansion programme in Surrey’s history to meet growing demand at our excellent schools.

“It will see the council create the 16,000 classroom spaces we need to find to ensure every child gets the best possible education.”
