Following the Government’s announcement of a £50 million redevelopment of Gatwick Airport’s railway station as part of a £375m national infrastructure investment plan, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment John Furey said:
“This is great news for Surrey’s commuters and economy. A new platform and better facilities will help to reduce overcrowding and better transport links will stimulate our economy.
“It is exactly the sort of investment our rail strategy is calling for and we’ll continue to push forward on our hard work with Government, train companies and others to make important capacity and growth boosting projects like this become a reality.”
The Surrey Rail Strategy sets out how:
- Rail improvements will promote economic growth and create jobs
- Overcrowding can be tackled
- Rail investment benefits Surrey – to be used when applying for funding
- Surrey’s railways will be affected by increases in housing, employment and population growth.
