Unemployed, kicked out of home and not thinking about training, Surrey teenager Lou Nappin never imagined he would score a job with one of London’s oldest football clubs.
But the 18-year-old from Sunbury defied the odds to do just that – netting a youth coaching role with Fulham Football Club, thanks to a helping hand from Surrey County Council.
Lou is just one of many people considered NEET – not in education, employment or training – the county council helps up the career ladder each year, saving the public purse millions of pounds.
Lou’s role was secured through the My Future Goal programme run by Fulham FC Foundation and Barclays Spaces for Sports. It aims to give 300 young people from Surrey and London the skills and confidence they need for work.
