The men and women of the armed forces, past and present, were honoured at a flag raising ceremony at County Hall, hosted by Surrey County Council Chairman David Munro.
The event was just one of thousands expected to take place nationally in the lead up to Armed Forces Day this Saturday, 28 June, which recognises all those who have served and continue to serve our country.
Mr Munro said: “The men and women of our armed forces are faced with the daunting challenge of defending our country, its people and their interests.
“Despite all the challenges, they continually do so in a magnificent fashion, helping to ensure the well-being and prosperity of us all.
“These brave men and women have earned the gratitude of Surrey and, indeed, the nation.”
The Chairman was joined by veterans, cadets, a pipe band from Woking’s Gordon’s School, representatives from the Royal British Legion in Surrey, council staff and invited guests.
