Deputy leader helps launch Surrey space centre

Surrey Satellite Technology’s new spacecraft operations centre

new space centre, which will be used to send four satellites into orbit this summer, has been launched by Guildford-based Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL) with the help of county council deputy leader Peter Martin.

Mr Martin said: “The facilities are really are out of this world and I have no doubt they will be the nerve centre for many successful missions. Our role is to help SSTL and all the county’s other businesses succeed, whether that’s here in Surrey, globally or indeed in space, and do what they do best – create jobs and promote growth.”

To support economic growth, the county council is:

  • Investing £100 million in rebuilding more than 300 miles of road so firms run more efficiently
  • Creating more than 1,500 apprentice places to provide the skilled workforce of the future
  • Spending more than £1 million a day with local businesses to provide essential services.
