The event at County Hall saw council staff, veterans, cadets, members of the Surrey Royal British Legion and a band from Woking’s Gordon’s School join together to show their support for the military.

It marked the start of Armed Forces Week, which will culminate in a national celebration in Guildford on Saturday.

Mrs Marks said: “I feel privileged as Chairman to honour the brave men and women of our armed forces who have put their lives on the line to fight for our great nation.

“Despite the difficult challenges they face they continue to represent Surrey, and the nation as a whole, magnificently and an event like this is great to show the fantastic gratitude we all have for our servicemen and women.”
