Surrey County Council Chairman Sally Marks praised the efforts of the volunteer drug and alcohol team to help people deal with their problems when she paid a visit to Catalyst’s Camberley base. Catalyst provides counselling as well as support for family and friends.

Mrs Marks said: “I am so grateful to Catalyst for inviting me to meet their volunteers and learn more about the work of the charity. People who experience issues stemming from drug and alcohol misuse and mental health rely on the assistance and support of organisations like Catalyst and their work is extremely important as we know that it is not only the individual who can be affected, but also their family, friends and the wider community.”

Surrey Libraries offers tablet computer tips

Tips on how to get the most out of tablet computers will be handed out at an event organised by Surrey County Council’s libraries service.

The session, which takes place at Guildford Library on Wednesday 21 October, will see ‘Digital Eagles’ from Barclays Bank hand out advice on how to set up and send emails, video call family and friends from around the world and navigate using Google Maps.

The free event, which is aimed at people aged over 55, runs between 10am and 1pm. Tickets can be booked online.
