Surrey welcomes Transport Secretary’s action to tackle Southern problems

Following the news that Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has unveiled a £20 million fund to improve Southern Rail’s services, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning Mike Goodman (pictured) said:

“This is great news and recognises the frustration felt by Surrey’s commuters about the delays, cancellations and disruption.

“Not only will the Transport Secretary’s action help to relieve the suffering for thousands of the county’s passengers using Southern’s network day in day out, it will cheer businesses in the powerhouse Surrey and South East economies counting the cost of the recent chaos.

“Even before this happened, there was an urgent need to boost capacity across Surrey, which is why we are working tirelessly to bring Crossrail 2 to the county and push for full electrification of the North Downs Line while also examining the possibility of a creating new rail link to Heathrow.”
