More than £265,000 has been awarded to Surrey-based sports projects by the London Marathon Charitable Trust.
The Trust’s Board agreed the funding for five projects in Surrey to provide facilities to increase physical activity, sport and play. The grants include £100,000 to West End Bowls Club, Surrey Heath, and £75,000 to Abbey Rangers Football Club, Addlestone.
The London Marathon Charitable Trust accepts applications from projects located in all areas where London Marathon Events Limited organises mass participation events.
Since the first Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling in 2013 more than £2.5million has now been awarded by the Trust to 72 projects across Surrey.
Denise Turner-Stewart, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “These grants are great news for good causes in Surrey aiming to get more people taking part in sport and take the total awarded to projects and groups over the past four years to more than £2.5million. It means that 72 grassroots Surrey groups have secured grants thanks to the county’s involvement in RideLondon since the inaugural event in 2013, benefiting local communities for years to come.”
