Chinese transport officials visit Surrey

A delegation of Chinese transport officials have visited Surrey to learn about how the county council manages its roads.

The visitors from the Jiangxi Provincial Transport Department in the south east of the country wanted to find out about the council’s approach to maintaining and improving its 3,300-mile network.

Led by General Engineer Hu Zhao Feng, the party also found out about transport in Surrey and the rest of the country as well as the main challenges – including funding.

They were met at County Hall by council Chairman Peter Martin before hearing from Cabinet Member for Highways Colin Kemp and senior staff.

Mr Kemp said: “A lot of ground was covered – from road building and safety to the need for a fairer deal for our overburdened network.”

Mr Martin said: “We were delighted to have them as our guests and I’m sure they found their visit an informative and enjoyable experience.”
