Sean Benton inquest: order made on reporting of witness evidence

His Honour Peter Rook QC, who is conducting an inquest into the death of Private Sean Benton, has made an order postponing any reporting of Mr Martin Holder’s evidence until noon on Friday 9 March or further order.

The order was made under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. Further submissions on whether the order should continue or lapse will be heard in court on Friday 9 March.

The order can be found here – Contempt of Court Act Order – Benton Inquest 6 3 18

Pte Benton died at Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut, Surrey in June 1995. The High Court ruled in October 2016 that the inquest into his death held in July 1995 should be quashed and a fresh inquest ordered.

The new inquest began earlier this year and is being held at Court 3, HM Coroner’s Court, Station Approach, Woking, Surrey GU22 7AP.

UPDATE: Friday March 9, 12:01pm

A new order has been published: Order ending reporting restriction – Benton Inquest 9 3 18
