Shining examples of volunteer work were highlighted at an event staged by Surrey County Council to recognise people’s efforts to improve their communities.
Volunteers who “do selfless work” in their neighbourhoods were celebrated at an event at County Hall organised for Chairman Tony Samuels.
Each volunteer was handed a certificate and a medal. Those singled out for praise included Frances Dyble-Goode, who has spent more than two decades supporting people with dementia, and Gillian Hein, who has volunteered for nearly 40 years. Among the others highlighted were Surrey Heath’s Stuart King and Ripley’s Chris Lee.
Mr Samuels said: “I pay tribute to all those who do selfless work in their communities for the common good and I hope they inspire more people to play their part.”
