Helping Surrey’s carers get into sport

A new initiative has launched to help more carers get involved with and enjoy sport in Surrey.

The Surrey Carers Sporting Collaborative brings together Surrey County Council, the Diocese of Guildford and Action for Carers Surrey. Along with Surrey County Cricket Club, Surrey Football Association and Surrey Rugby, the partnership is exploring ways to enable more carers to participate in sport. Action for Carers Surrey is a charity supporting carers of all ages.

The project launched on Carers Rights Day at the Kia Oval, home of Surrey County Cricket Club. Tony Samuels, Chairman of Surrey County Council attended the event and said: “With 10% of Surrey residents being carers, I see this as a great opportunity for carers to become involved in sports and their local community. I am very happy to be an ambassador for this exciting project.”
