Update: Monday 4 January
Surrey County Council continues to work closely with schools to ensure face-to-face education can be delivered safely. As ever, we will support head teachers in making decisions based on their specific circumstances, and using Public Health expertise.
We understand the concern of parents, carers and schools about safety when primary schools in other areas have been instructed to remain closed. We are aware that the situation nationally is very changeable / volatile.
We will keep the Surrey-wide situation under constant review and have open lines of communication with the Department for Education.
We have also called on the Government to prioritise the vaccination of teachers so that their safety can be protected and promoted and schools can provide uninterrupted teaching.
We would like to thank our school staff who have worked especially hard this year to prepare for the return to school. We would also like to thank all parents and carers for their patience and understanding in supporting our schools and standing ready to respond to any potential further change.
Sunday 3 January
We would like to thank all of our school leaders and staff for their continued hard work and dedication during this difficult time.
At the time of writing, primary schools in Surrey are requested to open as normal this coming week in line with government guidance.
However, we will continue to monitor the rapidly changing national situation closely and if the local position changes, we will make this clear and provide support to our schools.
