Three further projects have been awarded Your Fund Surrey grants totalling over £800,000 in the latest batch of successful applications.
Claygate, Pirbright and Reigate will all get improved sports facilities thanks to local communities stepping up to make it happen, with help from Surrey County Council’s community projects fund. The fund is designed to help communities deliver big, inclusive, local projects that residents feel are needed in their area.
Claygate Community Pool has been awarded £363,500 to redevelop an existing outdoor pool into an indoor facility that will enable the whole community to use the pool all year round. This work is already underway and due to be finished next month. In May, work will begin on building changing rooms, showers, and a community room. This is expected to take about five months.
Pirbright Community Amateur Sports Pavilion has been awarded £300,000 for an environmentally sustainable, community amateur sports pavilion, at the heart of the village, to help foster wider engagement in active lifestyles for all.
The village’s existing cricket pavilion, nearly 70 years old and in poor condition, will be demolished and replaced, and the new facility will include changing rooms, toilets and a catering kitchen.
South Park Sports Association has been awarded £150,000 for a floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch with a spectator area, providing an opportunity for existing, former and new teams to play and build their provision for women, girls and people living with disabilities.
Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities Mark Nuti said: “I’m delighted grants have been awarded to these three excellent projects.
“Your Fund Surrey is all about empowering communities and bringing them together, and these three projects are great examples of that.
“I encourage residents to make the most of this great opportunity and come forward with further applications. We’re eager to work together with local communities to make it happen.”
