Surrey County Council’s website has been named one of the best in local government across the country for the second time in six months.
The site – http://www.surreycc.gov.uk – has been handed the highest possible four-star ranking in a prestigious annual survey of the UK’s 433 local authority websites.
Surrey was one of only 23 councils to receive the top rating from the Society of IT Managers (SOCITM).* It has also been ranked in the top 20 best developed sites.
SOCITM described Surrey’s as “an excellent site and a joy to use” and singled out the council for praise for the section allowing library users to extend book loans and its use of technology such as Twitter to improve services.
It comes after Surrey’s site was ranked in the top 10 for councils by information services business Experian last September.
Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Change and Efficiency Helyn Clack said: “It’s fantastic news to know we have one of the top council websites in the country.
“It shows the hard work we are putting in to providing residents with access to our services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“A lot of time and effort has been invested in developing the site and this national accolade is testament to the hard work of our staff.”
