Bids pour in for share of community cash

More than 60 bids have been lodged for a share of a £500,000 pot of cash to help people improve their local areas.

Surrey County Council received 62 applications from groups before the latest deadline for cash.

The Community Improvements Fund was launched by leader David Hodge with the aim of supporting residents’ efforts to independently enhance their neighbourhood.

Among those requesting between £10,000 and £30,000 are a sports club, a community shop and a scout group.

Further information about the fund can be found on the council’s website.

Schemes that have already won cash include a youth drop-in centre in Leatherhead, a skate park at Puttenham and an outdoor gym near Stoneleigh. Below is a video of Mr Hodge talking about projects that were awarded money last year.
