School pupils sign up to libraries and green volunteers needed

Schools sign up students as Surrey library members

Surrey County Council has launched a project to encourage schools to sign up their students as library members so they can access the wealth of online resources, including ebooks, and borrow library books too.

St Andrew’s School pupil Lottie Buchanan won a competition to design the library card that her school will use. She said “I was delighted to win the competition because I love both reading and drawing. In my design I wanted to show how many amazing creatures can spring at you from books, even when you open them for the first time. I’ve been going to Esher Library since I was very young and I can’t wait to actually see one of my pictures made into a library card!”

Join the Surrey Green Network

The Surrey Green Network is looking for volunteers who are interested in environmental issues and want to be part of an active group in the community. The network helps spread the word to Surrey residents about how they can reduce what they throw away.

There will be a training day for new recruits on Saturday, 11 October at The Surrey History Centre in Woking, starting at 10am. Places are limited so it is necessary to book in advance online.
