Conman convicted of peddling counterfeit DVDs worth over £750,000

A conman who swindled more than £750k out of unsuspecting shoppers has been stopped in his tracks by Surrey County Council Trading Standards.

Trevor Pegg, 61, of Epsom was found guilty on 13 different counts at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday following a prosecution brought by the council.

His Honour Judge Robert Fraser told Pegg that a prison sentence was “inevitable” after the court heard how he had spent over three years selling knocked off versions of popular DVDs including Disney’s Little Mermaid and Mrs Brown’s Boys on websites such as eBay and Play.

Surrey County Council’s Trading Standards Investigation and Enforcement Manager said: “Unfortunately, counterfeit goods are still available on the internet. There will be lots of fake presents sitting under the Christmas tree at the moment and I’m sure that Mrs Brown would not be amused.”

Pegg is set to be sentenced on the 15 January and Surrey County Council is looking to recover his ill-gotten gains in a special hearing in the New Year.
