Surrey welcomes eight new firefighters!

On Sunday 22 August, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service welcomed eight new on-call firefighters to the service.

The firefighters have undertaken a modular initial training course over a period of 4 months which included fire ground training as well as how to use hose, fire service ladders, breathing apparatus, road traffic collision equipment and much more.

They’ll join the crews at Chobham, Walton, Lingfield, Cranleigh, Haslemere, Oxted and Dunsfold Fire Stations.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Dan Quin, said: “I’m so proud to welcome these new firefighters and their families to our service. The hard work doesn’t stop here, these firefighters will continually learn and develop new skills with us, ensuring they are able to keep the people of Surrey safe. This is why it’s so important to us to welcome their loved ones to events like this, they’re a huge supporting part of this life-saving role.

“Well done to all eight firefighters for this fantastic achievement – these initial courses take a lot of dedication, commitment and teamwork. I look forward to working closer with you all.”

Deputy Cabinet Member, Kevin Deanus, said: “It’s a real pleasure to be invited to these celebrations with our new firefighters and to see how proud their loved ones are.

“I really do wish them the best of luck in their new careers with us, there are a lot of options, prospects and opportunities ahead of you. Congratulations and welcome!”

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is currently recruiting on-call firefighters at Lingfield, Gomshall, Dunsfold, Godalming and Chobham Fire Stations. On-call firefighters are members of the local community who may have other commitments or full-time employment outside of the fire service, but they either live or work nearby to an on-call fire station. When alerted via pager, they’re able to respond to emergency calls as and when required. Find out more information about positions within SFRS by visiting www.surreycc.gov.uk/firecareers.
