A local charity in Windlesham has this week been awarded a £95,000 grant by The London Marathon Charitable Trust towards the building of a brand new pavilion at the village’s community-owned recreation ground, ahead of the annual RideLondon-Surrey cycling festival on Sunday 29 July.
The grant will help support the creation of a new Windlesham Hub, housing an activity hall, public library, café with Wi-Fi, function space new accessible changing facilities for local sports clubs and cycle parking to encourage more cycling in the surrounding paths and woodlands.
This latest grant from The London Marathon Charitable Trust brings its funding total in Surrey to more than £3million. Since the first Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling in 2013, which is delivered in partnership by The Trust’s trading company, London Marathon Events Ltd., organisations in Surrey have been eligible to apply for grants from The Trust toward projects that inspire more people to be active.
Denise Turner-Stewart, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “I wholeheartedly welcome this grant which will provide facilities to benefit the local Windlesham community for many years to come. It is part of the legacy of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey events which has seen more than £3million awarded to deserving grassroots sports groups across the county since the inaugural event in 2013.”
