BMX bikers in Runnymede are riding high thanks to Surrey’s role in the Prudential RideLondon cycling festival.
The Runnymede Rockets BMX Club received a £50,000 grant from the London Marathon Charitable Trust in 2015 to help towards a track upgrade.
They’re among dozens of grassroots groups across Surrey to benefit from the Trust, which awards grants to recreational projects in areas where London Marathon Events Ltd organises events as a way of thanking communities for their support.
More than £3million has been awarded to improve sport and leisure facilities around Surrey since the inaugural RideLondon-Surrey events in 2013.
Here Mark Horwood, the secretary of the Runnymede Rockets, tells how the upgraded track is helping the club breed champions.
